OKUAPEMAN FEKUW OF EUROPE, UK AND IRELAND STOCKS GHANA LIBRARY -As It Urges To Uniquely Spotlight the Akuapem State



As part of the worthy commitment in enhancing the development and bond of the people of Akuapem both at home and abroad, a donation of some classic Accounting and Business books to the Ghana Library Authority in the Eastern Region later a week ago marked another well coordinated event by the Okuapeman Union of Europe, the UK and Ireland.



The event which occurred to stationing over 274 books at the Okere District Library, Abiriw on May 28, 2020 saw a gathering of key players such as the Amankrado of Abriw and his entourage, the Okere District Director of Education, the Okere District Chief Executive, the Regional Director’s Representatives, Assembly men, Representatives of various Okuapeman Chapters, the Local Library, the Donors, many other contributors including indigenes as they adhere to Covid-19’s precautionary measures.

According to Mr Daniel Addo Adjei, a founding member and Abusuapayin of the Union, the Akuapem’s educational status which carried a well noted respect to its kin appear to be eroding; however the union deems it a responsibility to re-establish to its originally respected class.

“Yes, we were known as Akuapem, we were not known as individual towns although Akuapem has got 17 individual towns and it’s endowed with a rich culture vest with 3 different languages amongst other treasures. The union have discarded being individualistic so that we have to move as a unified group and so it is our aim to see that we go back for what happened in times past which bind us together.” Mr Addo Adjei disclosed to Iseeghblogspot.com on the sidelines of the event.

In a conversation with Iseeghblogspot.com, Mr Daniel Kenneth, the Okere District Chief Executive (DCE) in his take, commended the gestures displayed by the union, “For me, donating to the district library is something that is important because when we encourage students to read, we need to stock it with books and anyone who gives you books has given you knowledge. Bringing such books here would elevate the library to the befitting status that it deserves.” He expressed.

The Okuapeman Union of Europe, the UK and Ireland which was founded about three (3) years prior had made a decent number of donations to a few organisations within the period. It at present consists of around 25 active to 50 members. Anyway the union accepts all interested persons both at home and in Diaspora to be members and further partake in the joint efforts of accomplishing their objectives.

According to Mr David Ofori, an Accounting professional, Treasurer of the Union and Principal of Andy Davidson College, London, through whom the books were donated highlighted ‘commitment’ as mainly the challenge faced by the union, however submits to it as the rightful medium to achieve every other advancement having members stick to it as an engagement.

Mrs Comfort Ofori Appiah, the Okere District Director of Education, on her part lauded the donation, “Earnestly, I’m grateful and excited considering the benefits of this library which serves the entire directorate and seeing the presentation, the kind of books and the quantity adding to the library’s collection, a community library which serves as a source of knowledge to all ages. I am sincerely thankful to the Okuapeman Union.”

As indicated by the donors, the efforts of some indigenes and non-members of the union resident abroad remarkably added to the possible shipment of the books, in the same vein the union deemed the officer in charge of the library and the entire library's board as consistent.

The union in any way targets additional projects in several areas of development such as health, tourism amongst others and uniquely situating the limelight of the Akuapem State.
