The great bridge-tunnel connecting Sweden and Denmark |
A magnificent bridge that turns into a tunnel was worked by COWI, a Danish engineering firm.
The bridge runs 5 miles from the Swedish Coast to the artificial Island of Peberholm, which lies in the strait. The intersection of the strait is finished by a 2.5-mile underwater tunnel, called the Drogden Tunnel, from Peberholm to the Danish Island of Amager.
The Resund Bridge is the longest joined motorway and rail bridge in Europe, interfacing two of the most significant centers in the area: the Danish Capital of Copenhagen and Sweden’s City of Malmo connecting the roads and rail systems of the Scandinavian Peninsula with those of Central and Western Europe.
The cable-stayed bridge has two 204 meter high pylons which is around 700 feet, supporting the bridge over the channel.
The development of the bridge started in 1995 and was opened to traffic on 1 July, 2000.
