Dead Persons Withdrawing State Cash

Dead Persons Withdrawing State Cash

As indicated by the Auditor-General (A-G), the Controller and Accountant-General's department has paid an entirety of about GHC 240, 000 to dead beneficiaries. The A-G has along these lines put an embargo on further finances paid to ghosts.

In a report by the Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo; he recommended that the Treasury Officer liaises with the banks where such withdrawals occurred to find the relatives required to refund the monies; including that the relatives’ constant withdrawal results from the paying authorities not been informed about the death of the recipients.

The usual wonder of Ghost names (Ghost names are names of dead persons or imaginary people found on government payroll) could be in play as a possible collusion from the Controller and Accountant-General's Department. In any case, the A-G's report was quiet on such conceivable arrangement.

A further proposal to the Principal Treasury Officer is to put an embargo on the allowances of the dead pensioners while he liaises with the Controller and Accountant-General to remove their names from the payroll.
